An IUP alumnus was posthumously honored by NASA with naming rights of a new spacecraft.
Officials with the university and Northrop Grumman say in a news release that a Cygnus spacecraft was recently named the NG-20: the S.S. Patricia “Patty” Hilliard Robertson, named after the late Dr. Patricia Hilliard Robertson, a 1980 Homer-Center graduate, a 1985 graduate of IUP and a 2000 Distinguished Alumni recipient.
Hilliard Robertson passed away in May 2001 in Houston after succumbing to injuries suffered in a private plane crash in Manvel, Texas. After graduating from IUP, she earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania, then completed a three-year residency before earning her certification from the American Board of Family Practice.
The IUP Libraries is also honoring Hilliard Robertson with a display about her life and work.
