Alex Nedeljkovic turned in another quality performance in net, but the Penguins squandered several scoring opportunities and fell to the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1, in overtime.
Here’s Paul Steigerwald.
What bogged the Penguins – again – was the Power Play unit, which was 0-for-3 on the man advantage last night despite coach Mike Sullivan adding Kris Letang to the top unit. It now stretches their cold streak to 11 games without a Power Play goal.
Sullivan said talent is not the issue for the lack of Power Play success.
Erik Karlsson said the Penguins are not creating enough scoring opportunities throughout games.
Sidney Crosby’s first-period goal earned him his 125th career point against Philadelphia, passing Mario Lemieux for the most by any opposing player. Against the Flyers, Crosby has 54 goals and 71 assists in 85 career games. He also passed Mats Sundin and Joe Nieuwendyk for career goals, placing him 24th in NHL history.
The Penguins look to rebound Wednesday night when they battle the Tampa Bay Lightning.
