The Pirates’ David Bednar had 39 saves and a 2.00 ERA in 2023. That was not quite good enough to make him the National League’s best relief pitcher. Milwaukee’s Devin Williams, with 36 saves, an 8-3 record, and a 1.53 ERA, won the Trevor Hoffman Reliever of the Year Award last night. The Padres’ Josh Hader was third in the voting.
The American League’s Mariano Rivera Reliever of the Year Award goes to the Orioles’ Felix Bautista, who had 33 saves but ended the year on the injured list and will miss 2024 after having Tommy John surgery.
