For the first time this season, Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth found himself heavily involved in the team’s offense in their 16-10 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
He was targeted 11 times, hauled in nine receptions and posted 120 yards, all season highs. This comes after missing time with injury and being utilized more as a blocking back. Given his performance, he could see more looks in the latter part of the regular season.
Freiermuth suffered a chest injury in October that landed him on injured reserve. He said it was a long road to recovery, but he looks to continue putting up impressive numbers.
Coach Mike Tomlin indicated that Freiermuth could be involved more in the passing game as the weeks evolve.
Tomlin will talk more about Freiermuth’s involvement at his weekly news conference later today. That is expected to start at noon.
