After Pitt wrapped up the season with a 30-19 loss to Duke, school officials announced on Sunday the firing of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti Jr.
Cignetti was in his third stint with Pitt but finished last in the ACC in total offense, averaging just 20.2 points per game. They were also last in points, yards per game, total yardage, and next-to-last in touchdowns, finishing one ahead of Wake Forest.
Saturday’s loss left Pitt with a 3-9 record, marking its worst season since 1998 when the Panthers went 2-9 in the Big East. Coach Pat Narduzzi said in his postgame comments that more changes will come as the offseason evolves.
Narduzzi adds that he will start meeting with returning players immediately.

ESPN reports that Texas A&M and Duke’s Mike Elko have reached an agreement to make him the school’s next head football coach. Elko served as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator from 2018-to-2021 before leaving to become the head coach of the Blue Devils. He will replace the recently fired Jimbo Fisher, who was paid a record-setting 76-million dollar buyout earlier this month. An official announcement is expected to come later today.
