The Pitt Panthers are headed to Brooklyn for the NIT Season Tip-Off at Barclays Center , where they will play tomorrow night against the Florida Gators. It will be Pitt’s first game this season against a school from a Power Five conference.
On Monday, freshman sensation Bub Carrington and veteran center Federiko Federiko talked about the Panthers’ fast start this season and their first big game of the year against the talented Gators.
Carrington has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week twice in the season’s first two weeks and is looking more and more like a one-and-done at Pitt, with a recent projection listing him as a potential top five pick in next year’s NBA Draft. Carrington is averaging 18 points per game and backcourt running mate Ishmael Leggett is averaging 15 points per game.
He says he came to Pitt because he saw an opportunity to play right away because of the number of guards they had graduating last season.
For Federiko, a return to the Barclays Center represents another chance to match up against a top-flight program. He says this year’s Panthers are a younger, peppier group than last year’s.
The Panthers will tip off with the Gators at 9:30 tomorrow night, then play Friday against either Baylor or Oregon State.
