The Indiana School District’s Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Committee will hold a meeting tonight, and the future of Horace Mann School will be up for discussion.
The decision to end classes at Horace Mann came during the school board meeting on January 23rd of last year as part of a plan to reconfigure the elementary schools. Under the plan, East Pike and Ben Franklin would become Pre-K to third grade schools, while 4th and 5th grades would be at Eisenhower exclusively. Reasons for the new configuration include educational equity and savings of a half-million dollars each year, and the most effective use of staff and a reduction in staff travel times.
The building itself will not close, but this discussion may give some guidance on what the building may be used for in the future.
The committee will also receive an update on the Eisenhower project by Clerk of the Works Larry Calvetti, and examination of quotes for lighting upgrades for the Senior High and Junior High Schools.
The meeting will be held at 5:30 tonight at the district board room and will also be streamed on the district’s website.
