Residential customers of Pennsylvania American Water Company would see a 25 percent increase in their monthly bills if the state approves the utility’s rate increase request. The cost would rise from $70.65 to $88.24 for the typical customer using 3,201 gallons of water per month.
Commercial rates would rise even higher, by 27 percent, from $346.13 per month to $439.77 for 22,094 gallons per month. Industrial users would pay 32 percent more, with usage of 685,947 gallons per month and the average bill at $10,173.68.
The rate increase request was filed with the Public Utility Commission on November 8th. The funding would help pay for $1 billion in water and wastewater improvements schedule through mid-2025.
Pennsylvania American serves about 2.3 million customers in the state. This year, the company has spent about $1.4 million to replace 5,300 feet of aging water mains in Indiana County.
