Friday turned into be a busy day for Indiana County’s first responders with many calls reported over the last 24 hours.
At 11:30, Commodore and Clymer fire departments were dispatched to a brush fire on Evergreen Road in Green Township, with Cherryhill Township Fire Crews called in to standby for Clymer, and Hope fire department called in to assist at 12:12. Another brush fire was reported at 12:08 PM on Swamp Road in Cherryhill Township, with Cherryhill Township and Pine Township crews called out. The two brush fires bring the total for Indiana County this year to 85.
At 2:51 was the first of two vehicle accidents of the day on Old Route 119 South in Center Township. That brought the Homer City fire department out. No information is available yet on that crash. The other crash was on South 6th Street near IRMC Drjve. Indiana Fire Association officials say that two vehicles were involved and one of the drivers ran a red light. Minor damage and injuries were reported, and two people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Homer City fire department, State Police and Citizens Ambulance assisted on-scene.
Indiana and Homer City Fire Departments would be called out again along with Aultman Firefighters for a reported structure fire on Shady Lane in the Shadowbrook section of White Township. Officials with the Indiana Fire Association said that a power surge was reported at a pair of houses in the neighborhood, but the homeowners were able to shut off the power and prevent a fire from spreading.
And an automatic fire alarm was activated at 11:36 PM on Nibert Road in Rayne Township. Clymer Fire Department was dispatched at the time.
