The Penguins look to win their sixth straight game tonight when they host the New Jersey Devils at PPG Paints Arena. The Pens lead New Jersey by a single point in the NHL Metro Division. With a Flyers win last night, Philadelphia jumped over both teams for fifth place in the division, with 17 points, one more than the Penguins and two more than the Devils.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Devils are very good.
Sullivan says New Jersey is very good in the neutral zone, where they can turn defense into instant offense in a flash. So the Penguins will have to be smart all over the ice.
The Penguins’ five-game winning streak has been fueled largely by the familiar “Big Three”, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang, and Sullivan says there’s a reason for that…they’ve all worked hard to improve their games.
Malkin missed practice yesterday because he was ill. Forward Matt Nieto also was missing as he was having a maintenance day.
Backup goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic returned to the ice as a full practice participant. He’s been out since October 24th, when he sprawled on the ice against Dallas and took a hit on his left knee. He’s eligible to come off the long-term injured reserve list on Sunday.
Because of IUP basketball on U92 and Pitt football on WCCS, there will be no Penguins radio tonight. Faceoff is shortly after 7 o’clock.
