While the weather has been pleasant in our area, it has made the ground dry and a combination of dry ground and windy conditions today will create an elevated risk of fire today.
The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement on the elevated risk of wildfire across Western Pennsylvania until 6:00 tonight. During this time, minimum relative humidity levels of 20-30% along with wind gusts between 15 and 20 miles an hour create ripe conditions for wildfires that could be touched off with even a small spark.
Indiana Fire Association Assistant Chief Ron Moreau said that these times, while they are brief, can be dangerous.
