The Christmas Tree for Downtown Indiana has arrived and is now in place at IRMC Park.
The 30-foot Concolor Fir came from the front lawn of Dennis and Elaine Thurston’s home in Homer City, and was cut down by Johnston Nursery and Landscaping and transported by Don Huey trucking from Homer City to Indiana this morning. The tree was selected by Gregg Van Horn, who said that unlike in previous years, when the trees were over 40 feet tall, this one won’t sway as much.
As the tree goes in, decorations from the Festival of Lights are also being installed along Philadelphia Street. They were brought in by McNaughton Brothers, as they had been holding the deocrations in their storage area. Repair work is also being done by students at ICTC to fix any broken decorations. The tree and the decorations will be ready by Friday for the kickoff to the holidays in Indiana with the Lucy Donnelly Light Up Night and Holiday Kickoff parade.
Because of the tree, it now means that North 7th Street from Philadelphia Street to Nixon Avenue is closed for the duration of the Holiday season.
