The nominees were announced yesterday for Major League Baseball’s fifth annual All-MLB team, and the Pirates have one player on the list: reliever David Bednar.
The winners will be announced on December 16th, with fifty percent of the vote determined by fans and fifty percent by an expert panel. Fans can vote once every 24 hours between now and 8 PM November 19th. The easiest way to vote is by visiting pirates.com. The Astros lead MLB with ten nominees. The Braves have nine and the Rangers eight.
Minor League Baseball has named its 2023 organization All-Stars for the Pirates. Players are chosen regardless of age, prospect status or level. For the Bucs, the all-stars are Endy Rodriguez at catcher, Miguel Andujar at first base, Termarr Johnson at second base, Nick Gonzalez at third, Jack Branigan at shortstop, Jase Bowen, Tres Gonzalez, and Juan Machado in the outfield, right-handed pitchers Jared Jones and Ryan Harbin, and left-handed pitcher Anthony Solometo.
Some of those choices are questionable. Nick Gonzalez primarily played second base, not third; Andujar, who has since been claimed by Oakland, was mainly an outfielder, not a first baseman; and Endy Rodriguez played a good portion of the season with the Pirates.
