Pitt opened its season last night with a spectacular performance by their new point guard. Highly-touted freshman Bub Carrington racked up a triple double as the Panthers routed North Carolina A&T, 100-52.
Carrington had 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists in the win, with coach Jeff Capel putting him back in the game to get the final assist and record only the fifth triple double in Panthers history. The last one was 25 years ago, by Ricardo Greer in 1998.
Jorge Diaz Graham scored 14 points, Blake Hinson and Federiko Federiko had 13 each, and Ishmael Leggett had 11 for Pitt.
Capel liked how hard the Panthers played and their team-first attitude. He says they have to keep getting better.
The coach said Carrington is a great addition to the Panthers, and he fits in well with his teammates.
Pitt will host Binghampton on Friday night.
