George P. Taylor “Coon Dog”, 85, of Blairsville, passed away on November 4, 2023, at his home, with his loving wife, Carol, by his side.
He was born September 24, 1938, in Indiana, the son of the late Joseph M. and Irene (Wisniewski) Taylor.
George graduated in 1957 from Laura Lamar High School, in Homer City, where he was a member of the Wildcat football team. George was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corp., serving during the Vietnam Conflict. He retired from Helen Mining Company, Local 1412.
He enjoyed training coon hounds to water race. George and his wife travelled together to many water races in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He enjoyed going to gun bashes to support the local fire companies. He always had a smile and a special Hello for everyone.
George is survived his wife of 63 years, Carol A. (Luther) Taylor, of Blairsville, they were married October 29, 1960. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Wetzel and husband, Richard Sr. of Home, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sisters: Louise Percic, Joan Brida, Martha Mae Smith, Anna Mae Benamati and Lucille Taylor. He was also preceded by several nieces and nephews, and his devoted dog, Pilgrim.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to George’s Excela Health Hospice team, Erika, Melissa, and Ashley, for their exceptional care of George; and a heartfelt thank you to Jim, Mirella, and Diane Sabella, his neighbors, who have helped the family throughout the years.
As per George’s request, there will be no visitation, just say a prayer and smile. Interment will be in S.S. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, at a later date. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville.
