Despite the snow that fell over the last few days, it is still Autumn, and PennDOT officials are gearing up for the winter season.
PennDOT District 10, which serves Indiana, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion and Jefferson Counties are getting their 165 snowplow trucks and other pieces of equipment ready to go for the winter season. Their work is expected to cover close to 7,000 miles of road that are plowed by trucks in the five-county district. They are also getting mixes of anti-skid, salt and salt brine ready to help with anti-icing operations.
Motorists are reminded that they also play a part in making sure roadways are safe in Pennsylvania. They advise you to use your low-beam lights, turning off cruise control on wet or snow-covered roads, being on the lookout for ice or packed snow, and clearing snow and ice off your car before you head out. People are also advised to check road conditions before they head out by calling 511 or by connecting with 511pa.com on the internet.
