IUP women’s basketball coach Craig Carey is gearing up for his second season with the Crimson Hawks and he talked with Jack Benedict this week about his expectations for this year.
Carey spent the offseason reloading his roster, bringing in several transfers, including former Mercyhurt forward Grace Centrulla and former Alderson Broaddus forward Nyshae’ Weaver. He also welcomed Elena Benito, a freshman guard from Santander, Spain.
Carey said he wanted to beef up his roster after having limited depth last year, and he knows opposing teams will take note.
Along with bringing in new faces on the roster, Carey also welcomes back former IUP guard Courtney Alexander as an assistant coach. He said she brings another strong mind to the team.
You can hear Jack’s full interview with Coach Carey at halftime during this Saturday’s game between IUP and Clarion on U92.5 FM.
Meanwhile, IUP’s men’s basketball team was picked fourth in the NABC Preseason Top 25 poll. This comes on the heels of IUP’s ranking in the CBB Nation preseason poll, which was released in October.
The men open their season with two non-conference games, the first being November 10 against Notre Dame (Ohio) at the KCAC. The women host Penn State New Kensington the same day at the KCAC.
