Despite going on the Power Play seven times, one even being a 5-on-3 advantage, the Penguins couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities and closed out their four-game homestand with a 4-3 loss to Anaheim.
Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
The loss caps off a pitiful homestand in which the Penguins went 1-3. Coach Mike Sullivan said his team is finding ways to lose.
Sullivan adds the Penguins had plenty of opportunities.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry said he needs to be better in net.
Evgeni Malkin has been through tough stretches with the Penguins and he said he still believes they can break out soon.
Prior to last night’s game, the Penguins honored former center Adam Johnson, who died after an on-ice collision Saturday night in England, in which his neck was sliced by a skate in the second period. A celebration of Johnson’s life was held, which included “one final cheer” rather than the traditional moment of silence. Johnson was 29.
The Penguins have a few days to regroup before starting a three-game road trip against the Sharks in San Jose.
