Coach Mike Tomlin met with the media a day earlier than usual due to the shortened week to discuss Sunday’s loss to Jacksonville and preview Thursday night’s clash with Tennessee.
One of the things Tomlin discussed were the flurry of questionable penalties that plagued the Steelers on Sunday. Rather than breaking down the calls, though, he said his team needs to start winning “definitively” so officiating doesn’t become a factor in big moments.
Tomlin also broke down the team’s injury situation. He said safety Minkah Fitzpatrick “can be characterized as out,” after suffering a non-contact hamstring injury on Sunday. He adds quarterback Kenny Pickett could play despite suffering a rib injury, but his status will be determined based on his performance in practice.
Should Pickett miss Thursday’s game against the Titans, Tomlin indicated Mitch Trubisky would take his place rather than third-string quarterback Mason Rudolph. He said Trubisky is always willing to step up.
The Steelers also signed former Falcons linebacker Mykal Walker to the practice squad and released linebacker Caleb Johnson.
