Several area fire crews responded to three incidents yesterday in both Indiana and nearby Jefferson Counties.
The first incident was reported at 11:09 AM and that brought out the Marion Center, Plumville, Clymer and Rossiter Fire departments along with Citizens’ Ambulance to a property on Olsen Road in East Mahoning Township. Marion Center fire officials said in a Facebook post that what was initially reported as a possible barn fire turned out to be a controlled burn. All units were promptly cancelled.
The second call was for a fire at a property on Grandview Avenue in White Township that brought out the Indiana, Homer City, Creekside and Clymer Fire Departments at 6:58 PM. The county HAZMAT team and Citizens’ Ambulance were called out at the time.
According to a post on the Indiana Fire Association Facebook page, all the occupants got out safely. The reported source of the fire was an office chair and they were able to drag it out to the driveway and put it out. Officials credited the quick thinking of the residents in closing the bedroom door, which prevented the fire from getting out of hand. While the building took on smoke damage, damage from water and the fire were relatively minor.
The third fire call brought Rossiter Firefighters to Smokin’ Pete’s BBQ near Punxsutawney. They joined three Punxsy fire companies, McCalmont Township and Big Run firefighters in putting the fire out at 7:10 PM. Fire was seen going through the roof of the restaurant. No word on the exact cause, but a lot of damage in the rear of the building where the furnace and electrical panel were located.
