At the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors meeting last week, county commissioner Robin Gorman said that she may be asked to lead a solar utilities task force being formed by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. She added that she was somewhat surprised at the offer because of her ties to oil, gas, and coal, but the CCAP responded that she is exactly the person for the role. The task force will address key areas of land use, taxation and assessment, agriculture, and environmental permitting.
Gorman noted the growth of solar energy use in Pennsylvania and said it’s already in use in Indiana County, but people have many questions and “are not prepared to know if they are making well-informed decisions about what to do or how to use their property, and if they can trust it.”
Another highlight of the Chamber meeting was a report by Byron Stauffer Jr. of the Indiana County Development Corporation and the Office of Planning & Development, who told the Board the county has received more than $935,000 from the Whole-Home Repairs Program, and has earmarked the funds for ARIN Intermediate Unit and ICTC to support career pathways and local trades.
