George Ross McElhoes, 78, of New Derry, PA passed away on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at his home.
The son of Raymond C. and Esther P. (Mock) McElhoes, he was born November 29, 1944, in Indiana, PA.
George was a graduate of Blairsville High School, Class of 1962.
He was a member of the Army National Guard. George worked for Tunnelton Mining for 25 years and continued to work in the mining industry until his retirement in 2009.
Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Shirley E. (Reynolds) McElhoes, whom he married on January 23, 1964; two sons, David B. McElhoes (Kelly) of St. Petersburg, PA, and Richard A. McElhoes (Tracey) of Derry; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jacob, Kathryn, Andrew, and Ross; and two brothers, John McElhoes of Bradenville, and Patrick McElhoes (Patricia) of Blairsville.
He was preceded death by his parents, and his brother, Clark Dennis McElhoes.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22nd from 5 to 8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home in Blairsville. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 PM with Pastor Terry Semsick officiating.
Interment will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery, West Wheatfield Township, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society in George’s memory.
