CROSS COUNTRY
History was made at the Heritage Conference cross country championships yesterday as the United teams ended the longtime dominance of Marion Center. The United girls eked out a three-point win over the Stingers to halt a conference championship streak of 13 for Marion Center that went all the way back to 2010. The Lions’ boys edged the Stingers by only seven points, denying the Stingers a seventh straight title.
For the boys, United’s Colton Henning was first across the line, finishing in 17:21.10. He was followed closely by teammates Matthew Beaver and Dallas Pearce. Marion Center’s Seth Boring and Portage’s Logan Gentile rounded out the top five. The top twenty-two runners all broke twenty minutes.
In the girls race, Marion Center’s Lydia Miller broke the tape first at 20:32.60. United’s Oliva Henning was second, followed by West Shamokin’s Jasmine Lucullo, Portage’s Alex Chobany, and Cambria Heights’ Savannah Hoover.
