At Thursday Night’s meeting, the Homer-Center School Board discussed the topic of a list of goals that they want to accomplish.
Board President Michael Bertig said that about two years ago, the idea of a goal list was created and prioritized, but it was put aside when the previous superintendent, Curtis Whitesel, submitted his resignation.
Bertig said that between then and now, one goal was accomplished, and that was the creation of a new high school finance course.
But at the recent academic committee meeting, two goals were prioritized. One was to update the professional employee handbook for teachers. The other was to make the end of the school year more productive, and Bertig talked about an idea from Superintendent Ralph Cecere that involved careers.
Cecere said each teacher would teach two careers in each class, so that by the end of the week, students would be exposed to many different careers that use what was taught in the classes.
In other business, the board approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and Shippensburg University for eligible juniors and seniors to earn credits in early childhood degree programs.
