The Penguins took a 1-0 lead but then surrendered four straight goals to the Red Wings last night and ended up losing in Detroit. Brian Metzer reports.
Coach Mike Sullivan says the Pens played well, except for a portion of the second period when they lost their edge.
Sullivan was happy that the Pens kept fighting and would have had a chance except for the empty net goals, one of which the Penguins challenged for a claim that it was offsides. The onside call was confirmed on video review.
Goaltender Tristan Jarry was encouraged that the Penguins fought back.
Defenseman Erik Karlsson says teams will go through dry spells in a game and the Penguins will have to work harder when that happens.
The Penguins yesterday waived forward Karel Plasek, whom they acquired from Vancouver on Tuesday. He was originally assigned to Wheeling of the ECHL, but placing him on waivers clears salary cap space for the Pens. The main piece of that trade was defenseman Jack Rathbone, who was assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Defenseman Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover went from the Pens to Vancouver.
With the loss last night, the Pens fell to 2-2 and will play the Blues in St. Louis on Saturday night.
