GOLF
At the PIAA Double-A golf tournament yesterday, West Shamokin’s Alex Talmadge shot a second straight 1-over 73 at the Penn State White Course to finish in a two-way tie for ninth place. Talmadge’s 2-over total was eight strokes behind the winner, Wyoming Seminary’s Nick Werner.
River Valley’s Jake Pynos finished in a tie for 25th, at 10-over. Brady Houser of Northern Cambria was at 14-over, in a tie for 44th.
In girls Double-A, River Valley’s Maren Dunlap was 36th.
HOCKEY
Beckett Dunn and Ryan Berry each scored as North Catholic squeezed by Indiana 4-3 in a shootout last night at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry.
Phil Bell gave Indiana a 1-0 lead with a power play goal in the first period but North Catholic scored the next two goals, in the second. Then Landin Wilson and Andrew Kobak scored power play goals to put Indiana up 3-2 heading into the third period before North Catholic tied it with a goal by Quinn Lee at 11:25 of the third.
Jayden Learn stopped 24 of 27 shots on goal in regulation for Indiana.
VOLLEYBALL
Indiana knocked off Greensburg Salem, 3-1, taking the first two games, 25-23 and 25-13, before dropping the third game, 23-25, and winning the fourth, 25-22. Hannah Cowburn had 42 assists, 8 digs 5 kills, and a block. Stella Stossel had 18 kills, 7 digs, an ace and a block. Addie Stossel had 5 aces and 8 digs. Alex Ball had 3 aces, 29 digs, and 2 assists. Paige Fisanich had 11 kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Taylor Wood had 7 kills and 2 blocks. Ashlynn Branan had 8 kills , an ace, and a block. Kayla Leon had 5 kills and 4 blocks.
Greensburg Salem won the JV game, 2-1.
In the Heritage Conference, Marion Center topped Homer-Center, 3-0. The scores were 25-19, 25-18, and 25-15. The win clinches a spot for Marion Center in the Heritage Conference championship at the KCAC next Tuesday night. The Stingers will play Northern Cambria in one semifinal and West Shamokin will tangle with Conemaugh Township. Tickets are on sale now at the KCAC box office.
West Shamokin won its ninth in a row, 3-0, over Purchase Line.
Northern Cambria survived Portage, 3-2.
Conemaugh Township stopped United, 3-0
River Valley beat Penns Manor, 3-1.
