The Penguins got two goals from Byran Rust, plus scores by Jake Guentzel, Reilly Smith, and Evgeni Malkin to beat Calgary, 5-2.
After falling behind 1-0 in the second period, the Pens responded with Rust’s first goal, off a rebound of a Kris Letang shot, to make it 1-1 eighteen seconds into the third. Then 23 seconds later, Smith converted a feed from Malkin for his second goal on a 2-on-1 break. The Pens extended the lead with Guentzel’s one-timer off a cross-ice pass from Letang at 5:50. Malkin made it 4-1 on a wrister off a drop pass from Smith at 13:13. The Flames scored at 16:05, but Rust added an empty-netter at 19:38 to finish the scoring.
Alex Nedeljkovic made 34 saves for his first Penguins win.
The Penguins play the Red Wings in Detroit on Wednesday.
