After having their opening game of the season ruined with a 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks, the Pens spoiled the season-opener for the Washington Capitals with a 4-0 shutout win in DC Friday night.
After a scoreless first period, Evgeni Malkin kicked the scoring off after Erik Karlsson kept the puck in the offensive zone. Rikard Rakell gained possession on the right half wall, and passed it to Malkin to put the Pens on the board at the 4:07 mark of the 2nd period. Sidney Crosby then picked up two goals, at the 5:51 and 11:46 marks of the second period. In the third period, Reilly Smith scored at the 16:57 mark of the third period.
Tristian Jarry stopped all 19 shots on goal en route to his first shutout of the season.
No rest for the Pens as they head back to Pittsburgh to host the Calgary Flames. You can hear the game starting at 6:00 with the pre-game show on U-92.5 FM.
