Members of the State Police Troop A Major Case team have released more information on the mass shooting at Chevy Chase Community Center early Sunday morning that left one person dead and eight others wounded.
Authorities believe that there was a confrontation inside the building during a private party between several individuals, and that other, uninvolved persons were hit inadvertently by the gunfire. Whether or not the involved individuals were invited to the party remains under investigation at this time. To maintain the integrity of the investigation, information on the suspect is being withheld, along with the identity of the person who rented the space.
The shooting took the life of 22-year-old Jamie Herriot, Jr. of Homestead. Eight others were taken to area hospitals for treatment. One of them, an 18-year-old from Chicago, was last listed in critical condition, but is expected to survive. The others continue to receive treatment or have already been released from the hospitals.
PA Crimestoppers and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are offering rewards totaling $15,000 for information leading to the identification of the suspects and the prosecution of those responsible. Anyone with information can call state police at 724-357-1960 or report their tip to crimewatchpa.com/crimestoppers. All those submitting a tip can remain anonymous.
