HOCKEY
Indiana scored four goals in the third period to break open a 4-3 game as they opened the season with an 8-3 win over West Allegheny. Indiana scored the only two goals of the first period, by Gabe Nettleton and Jackson Albert, but West Allegheny scored three of the next four goals in the second to tie the game at 3. Phil Bell scored in between two goals by West Allegheny’s Branden Switalski, and after West Allegheny’s Max Smith tied the game, Ryan Bell put Indiana ahead for good at 10:57 of the period.
In the third period, Phil Bell scored a power play goal at 13:50 to put Indiana up 5-3, then Indiana scored the final three goals on the empty net, by Nettleton, Garrett Goodrich, and Phil Bell’s hat trick goal.
SOCCER
Emily Betsinger scored the game-winning goal for Indiana late in the second half in a 2-1 win over Armstrong.
GOLF
At the WPIAL Individual Golf Tournament yesterday, Indiana’s Harrison Martineau and Trevor Todd each missed out on making it to the state Triple-A tournament. Martineau shot a 79 at Valley Brook Country Club for a two-round total of 160, one stroke shy of qualifying for the state tourney, and Todd shot 82, finishing at a total of 162.
Indiana will play in the team semi-finals next Tuesday at The Links at Spring Church.
