Ray Goss, longtime sports broadcaster, the former General Manager of WDAD and WQMU, and co-founder of WCCS, was inducted last night in the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame at a ceremony at the Omni William Penn in Pittsburgh.
Goss started his radio career in the 1950’s when he joined WDAD in Indiana, and eventually became the General Manager of the station before going on to co-found WCCS nearly 40 years ago. Goss is also had a lengthy career as the radio voice of the Duquesne Dukes, and he will start his 56th season behind the mic for the basketball team, making him one of the longest tenured broadcasters in NCAA Division I sports.
He said he was grateful for having a long career in broadcasting.
Goss said that he was lucky that the PAB has inducted him in the Radio Hall of Fame.
Goss eventually became the General Manager of WDAD in Indiana and remembered his surprise when he was told that they were about to get an FM station.
Another longtime voice of Pittsburgh sports was inducted last night as Pitt Panthers and Steelers play-by-play man Bill Hillgrove was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.
