The Penguins will send an NHL lineup onto the ice at PPG Paints Arena tonight as they face the Buffalo Sabres in preseason hockey. The lineup published by the Pens includes A-listers Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Eric Karlsson, Tristan Jarry, Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, and Reilly Smith.
At practice yesterday, coach Mike Sullivan got down to the business of replacing the injured Jake Guentzel on Crosby’s top line, and did intense work on the power play, integrating Karlsson and moving Kris Letang to the off wing.
Sullivan says Rickard Rakell is a top option to fill in for Guentzel on Crosby’s left wing, even though Rakell is a natural right-sider.
Sullivan is looking forward to seeing Letang and Karlsson together on the power play, especially when they switch roles.
The Penguins yesterday assigned top draft pick Brayden Yager to Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League. The move back to juniors was expected for the 18-year-old. Yager scored 28 goals for Moose jaw last season.
