The Central Allegheny Challenger Learning Center project took a major step forward at the Indiana County Commissioners meeting Wednesday morning.
The county commissioners signed off on a sublease agreement with the Challenger Learning Center for an 11,166 square-foot property on Hammil Road in White township on the campus of the Indiana County Technology Center. The proposed sublease includes an initial eight-year term, with two eight-year extensions.
The project has been a long time in the making, and has suffered its share of setbacks, but Byron Stauffer with the Indiana County Office of Planning and Development said that projects like this one are not easy.
The Challenger Learning Center has engaged Thomas R. Harley Architects for the project’s design, and he expects bids to go out soon for the project, and for actual construction to get underway as soon as next year.
In other business, the commissioners approved a resolution to authorize the filing of a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grant application for $3 million for the Indiana Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Facility. The hospital would be responsible for the dollar-for-dollar matching funds required, along with the interim financing as it is a reimbursement program.
