Penguins players will report to Cranberry on Wednesday for the start of training camp and the first on-ice activities are scheduled for Thursday. Most players have already been working out for several weeks at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
The first preseason game will be Sunday at PPG Paints Arena against Columbus, and the Blue Jackets made news yesterday when new coach Mike Babcock abruptly resigned. Associate coach Pascal Vincent will take over the job. Babcock’s resignation comes one week after he was accused of invading the privacy of his players by asking to see photos on their cell phones. The NHLPA met with Blue Jackets players to discuss the incident and found several players were uncomfortable with the apparent “team building” activity.
