The Altoona Curve did not let a stellar pitching performance from Omar Cruz go to waste as they won over the Akron Rubber Ducks 4-0.
Cruz struck out a season-high eight batters after coming in the game in the 4th inning. After seven innings of shutout baseball, Altoona broke through in the eighth with Jase Bowen hitting a bases-loaded ground ball that was retrieved by Akron’s pitcher Franco Aleman, but Aleman threw it away on the second throwing error by Akron that inning which scored two runs. Jacob Gonzales had a two-RBI single to cap off the inning.
The two teams play tonight, with Jackson Wolf scheduled to start for the Curve while Akron will send Jack Leftwich.
