Frank Cignetti Jr. has had a lot of football homes, and one of them was at West Virginia University, where the Panthers will play on Saturday night. In a far-ranging football career, Pitt’s offensive coordinator has coached in fifteen places, and while he never coached at West Virginia, he lived there when his dad, IUP legend Frank Cignetti Sr., was the offensive coordinator and then head coach of the Mountaineers.
Cignetti was his typical upbeat self yesterday as he talked about the game and the problems the Panthers had last week against Cincinnati. He said one of the problems Pitt had on Saturday was…himself. He said he takes a critical look at himself after every game.
Cignetti liked what he saw on the Pitt practice field yesterday.
The Panthers and Mountaineers are both 1-1. Pitt leads the all-time series, 62-40-3 after last year’s 38-31 Panthers victory.
