There was a lot more going on than was apparent in the final seconds of IUP’s 13-12 loss to East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Coach Paul Tortorella talked about the game with Jack Benedict last night on Hawk Talk at the Hilton Garden Inn on Renda Digital TV and U92 radio.
IUP missed a chance at kicking a game-winning field goal as the clock expired when the coaching staff mistakenly thought they had one timeout left. But the Crimson Hawks still should have gotten a chance at kicking the ball because of two penalties the officials should have flagged East Stroudsburg for, but they missed. One was twelve players on the field by the Warriors. The other was a penalty for the East Stroud coaches running out on the field in their frantic effort to get the twelfth man off the field. It happened right in front of the officials but no flags were thrown.
Tortorella said it means very little, but the PSAC sent their regrets.
The coach said IUP will move on, looking forward to the next opportunity instead of back at the loss.
IUP will host Shippensburg this Saturday before opening the PSAC West schedule the following week at Mercyhurst.
