Steelers coach Mike Tomlin will have plenty to say today about his team’s poor effort on Sunday in the season-opening disaster against San Francisco. Not only will he have the loss on his mind, he will have a couple of big holes to fill before Monday night’s game against the Browns.
Cam Heyward is expected to miss multiple weeks with a groin injury and Diontae Johnson could also be out with his hamstring issue. NFL Network reported Heyward could be put on injured reserve and might have surgery.
In the Steelers’ locker room yesterday, linebacker Kwon Alexander said the defense had better find its game soon, because after facing Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers in their first game, they follow up with another top running back, the Browns’ Nick Chubb.
Rookie Keeanu Benton will be one of the men called upon to replace Heyward on the defensive line. He says the Steelers will be ready for Chubb.
Coach Tomlin is scheduled to hold his news conference at noon today.
