Joe Perez cracked a two-run home run in the eighth inning as Altoona erased a 4-3 deficit and beat Harrisburg, 5-4. Matt Fraizer hit a three-run shot for the Curve in the first inning.
The Curve will make pitcher Paul Skenes available for a media appearance this afternoon. Skenes was shut down by the Pirates this week after they said he’d “checked all of the boxes” on the list of things he needed to accomplish this season. He was the Curve’s scheduled starter today, but Sean Sullivan will get the start instead.
And the Curve gets another top Pirates pitching prospect as the organization has promoted pitcher Bubba Chandler to Altoona. Chandler was a two-way player, hitting and pitching until this season, when the Pirates asked him to concentrate on pitching. He scuffled for much of the season but has a 1.83 ERA over his last eight starts for High-A Greensboro. Overall, he is 9-4 with a 4.75 ERA. He will make one more start this season, tomorrow night for the Curve against Harrisburg.
