The Steelers cut eight players, none of them veterans or draft choices, Saturday. They have to cut 29 more to get to the 53-man limit by Tuesday.
Those let go included five defensive players: defensive lineman James Nyamawaya, linebackers Kuony Deng (just signed last week) and Forrest Rhyne, and defensive backs Madre Harper and Nevelle Clark. Former Penn State wide receiver Dan Chisena was cut, as were kicker B.T. Potter and long snapper Rex Sunahara.
The Steelers still have punters Pressley Harvin III and Braden Mann on the roster. Both are former Ray Guy Award winners as the top punter in college football.
