The Pirates fell behind early and rallied to tie the game, but the Cubs snatched the win away in extra innings. Greg Brown has the recap.
The Bucs and Cubs will match up for the second game of the four-game series tonight with a good pitching matchup. Mitch Keller comes off his first win since June. He’s 10-8 with a 4.22 ERA for the Pirates and he will face the Cubs’ Kyle Hendricks, who is 5-6 with a 3.93 ERA. Because of Homer-Center football, the game will not be airing on WCCS.
Shortstop Oneil Cruz said yesterday he still wants to play for the Pirates this season, despite a setback in his recovery from a fractured ankle. Cruz says whether he is able to play again will ultimately be determined by the Pirates, and he’s good with whatever their decision is.
ALTOONA CURVE
Tsung-Che Cheng’s squeeze bunt brought home one run and Andres Alvarez then lifted a game-winning sacrifice fly as Altoona rallied for a 2-1 ten-inning win over Akron. Jackson Wolf started and threw five shutout innings for the Curve, which also got two scoreless innings each from Mitchell Miliano and Cameron Junker. Jackson Glenn had three hits and sacrificed the placed runner to third ahead of Cheng’s bunt. Matt Fraizer had two hits.
For game four of the series tonight, Anthony Solometo pitches for the Curve. And Altoona officially added Paul Skenes to the roster yesterday, placing Oliver Garcia on the development list.
