The average cost of a gallon of gas continues to increase as the summer driving period nears its end.
The national average this morning according to Triple-A went up three cents a gallon to $3.87 over the last week. Over the last month, the national average increased 31 cents. In Pennsylvania, the average is $3.91 a gallon, which is only a penny increase over last week, but 27 cents higher than last month.
Indiana County’s average as of this morning is $3.88 a gallon. Armstrong county’s average is the lowest in the region at $3.84, followed by Westmoreland County at $3.87, then Indiana, then Cambria at $3.91 and Jefferson at $3.93. Clearfield has the highest average in our region at $3.97 a gallon.
The increases in the averages come even as demand is falling and the cost of crude oil falling several hundred dollars a barrel over the last week. The increase comes over concerns of hurricane development and heat waves in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Triple-A reports that refineries in those states may curb production to deal with the heat.
Gas prices in Indiana, Homer City, Blairsville and Clymer are checking in this morning at $3.89 a gallon.
