The Steelers will play in Tampa Bay tomorrow night in their first preseason game. In a rugged practice yesterday, the defense stood out, at one point prompting a frustrated coach Mike Tomlin to wonder out loud if anyone could block TJ Watt. No one could.
Tomlin said he will be looking for a good grasp of the basics by his players tomorrow night.
Tomlin says all healthy Steelers will be in uniform and will play tomorrow. The coach is looking forward to getting the team into a stadium environment, and learning about his players.
Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl has kept a keen eye on the new additions to the roster this year, and the competition they’ve brought to training camp as they fight for a job.
The offseason makeover was not only to the roster on the playing field, but to the front office as well, and Weidl says it’s been fun getting to work with new personnel.
At practice yesterday, injured rookie cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and linebacker Nick Herbig were very limited, and veteran defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi also walked of the field with an apparent injury.
