It’s been a gritty struggle between the Pirates and the Atlanta Braves through the first three games of a four-game series. Last night Atlanta edged the Bucs with another late rally. Joe Block has the story.
For the series finale this afternoon, Pirates lefty Bailey Falter [0-7, 4.87 ERA] gets his second start as a Buc against Atlanta right-hander Bryce Elder [8-3, 3.43 ERA]. It’s a 12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.
The Pirates have not named a starter for tomorrow’s first game of their series with the Reds, and it appears they will go with a bullpen game. After sending Osvaldo Bido to Indianapolis this week and not calling up anyone from Indy’s starting rotation, the Bucs have only four starters in their rotation.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona split a doubleheader with Erie yesterday, winning the first game 4-2 as Sean Sullivan went all seven innings for his fourth victory. Connor Scott and Tsung-Che Cheng each had two hits.
Erie won the second game 5-2 as they got to reliever Noe Toribio for four runs. Curve outfielder Matt Gorski hit his 14th home run of the season.
Tonight, the Curve will start right-hander Braxton Ashcraft in the series’ fourth game.
