New Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson met the media yesterday and talked about the trade that brought him to Pittsburgh and the opportunity to play with Sidney Crosby, Geno Malkin, Kris Letang and the rest of the Pens.
Karlsson says he’s happy that he is coming to the Pens.
Karlsson loves to score and create offensive opportunities for his team and he sees the chance to do that with the talented Penguins forwards.
He says his new Penguins teammates have reached out to welcome him to Pittsburgh.
The veteran defenseman says it’s different coming to a city as a visiting player than it is actually living there, and he’s been surprised by the Pittsburgh area.
Karlsson is also excited to get a chance to play golf at the fabled Oakmont Country Club.
He says that after several injury-filled seasons, he found his joy in hockey again last season when he got healthy. He won his third Norris Trophy in ’22-’23.
