The Pirates had a chance to take a second straight game from the Braves last night, but David Bednar blew a save for the second time in his last three games, and only the third time this season. Joe Block recaps the disappointing night.
For tonight’s third game of the series, Quinn Priester [2-1, 8.69 ERA] pitches for the Bucs against Max Fried [3-1, 1.69 ERA]. The airtime is 6:40, first pitch at 7:05 on WCCS.
The Pirates shuffled the pitching staff again last night, sending starter Osvaldo Bido and reliever Yerry De Los Santos to Indianapolis and recalling right-handers Colin Selby and Thomas Hatch. The Bucs just claimed Hatch off waivers from Toronto on Sunday.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona lost to Erie, 7-3 in the opener of a seven-game series. Shortstop Tsung-Che Cheng had a double and a home run for the Curve.
It’s an afternoon doubleheader for the Curve and SeaWolves today, starting at 12:05. The Curve will start Sean Sullivan in the first game and Justin Meis in the nightcap.
BRADENTON
It was quite a day for the Pirates’ newly-drafted second base prospect Charles McAdoo. The 13th-round pick out of San Jose State in July, McAdoo was 6-for-6 with two home runs and eight RBIs yesterday in the Bradenton Marauders 13-9 win over Fort Myers. He has started his pro career with eleven hits in his first sixteen at-bats.
