The 2023 PA Youth Legion Western Regional Tournament begins today at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City, hosted by the Homer City Area Athletic Boosters.
There are four games on the schedule each day today, tomorrow, and Sunday, and two on Monday (the third place game and the championship game).
The action gets underway at 10 AM with a Pool B game between Millcreek and Saegertown, followed at 1 by a Pool A game featuring Edinboro and Murrysville. At 4 o’clock, it’s the first of two games on Renda Digital TV, a Pool B clash between two top teams, Indiana County League champion S.W. Jack and Penn Trafford, and that will be followed by a Pool A matchup of the host team, Homer City Post 493 and Monroeville. The presenting sponsors for our Renda Digital TV games are Force Turf Solutions and See World Satellites.
Tournament director Dick Clawson says this year’s field is very talented and the baseball should be terrific.
Clawson says it’s no coincidence that the Western Regional is held so often in Homer City.
We’ll have all of the games featuring the two Indiana County teams on Renda Digital TV this weekend. Tomorrow, we’ll start with Millcreek and S.W. Jack at 10 AM and then Homer City Post 493 will take on Edinboro in the night game at 7:30. That’s after the Pirate Parrot visits the field at 6:30, and kids 16 and under will get in free. After all of the Saturday action, the Boosters will put on a spectacular fireworks show at about 9:30.
Sunday’s Renda Digital TV schedule has Saegertown meeting S.W. Jack at 4, followed by Murrysville against Homer City Post 493.
The tournament wraps up with the third place game on Monday followed by the championship game. The top three teams from the Regional advance to the state tournament against the top three from the East.
