The Youth Legion playoffs finished pool play last night and now the championship is set, with two powerhouse teams squaring off this evening for the automatic berth in the Western Regionals. Mark Bertig recaps yesterday’s action.
In S.W. Jack’s 3-2 win over Armstrong, Charlie Manzi’s three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning erased S.W. Jack’s 3-2 deficit. Then after Armstrong tied the game at 3 in the sixth, the Drillers’ Chace Force walked in the bottom of the inning and Jamison Miller cracked a pinch hit RBI double off the wall in left to put S. W. Jack ahead, 4-3. Manzi then came on in relief of Sully VanHoose to get the save with a pickoff of a runner at first base and then two strikeouts. VanHoose got the win with six innings of two-hit baseball, striking out six and giving up one unearned run.
