Legion baseball playoff season is here, with action getting underway yesterday in Senior Legion and starting today in Youth Legion.
SENIOR LEGION
The District 31 playoffs opened yesterday and the three area teams struggled.
Homer City Post 493 fell to Murrysville, 11-3. Tristan Redinger and Kadin Homer each had two hits for Homer City and Michael Dolan drove in two runs. Murrysville jumped to a 4-0 lead after three and scored in every inning. Game two of the series is today at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City, with the first pitch at 5:30.
Hempfield East downed Young Township, 10-1. Game two is today at 5:30 at Bertolino Field in West Lebanon.
Top seed Bushy Run beat Blairsville, 14-3. Game two today is at 5:30 at Saylor Park in Burrell Township.
In the other game, Latrobe shut out Somerset, 10-0.
YOUTH LEGION
The Youth Legion baseball playoffs begin today with a new format. The league adopted pool play for this season with all eight teams participating and each team playing three games in their pool.
Pool A includes top seed Mahoning Valley of Punxsutawney, number four Homer City Post 493, number five Brookville, and number eight Kovacik Insurance of Blairsville. Pool B consists of number two S.W. Jack of Indiana, number three Armstrong, number six Young Township, and number seven Marion Center.
Pool games will be played today, tomorrow, and Monday. On Tuesday, the Pool A champion will play the Pool B champion for the league championship and a berth in the 2023 Youth Legion Western Regionals, which will be played July 21-24 in Homer City.
