The Pirates’ Mitch Keller had a rare off night and it led to the team’s third straight loss. Here’s Joe Block.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton says he noticed right away that Keller wasn’t himself last night.
Keller says he and catcher Austin Hedges tried to figure things out on a night when he didn’t have good stuff.
Before the game last night, Andrew McCutchen reunited with two young men and their father, recalling the night eight years ago when Cutch spotted them in their Pirates jerseys in the stands at Petco Field in San Diego and gave them his batting gloves. The video became a viral sensation across MLB. Christopher McCreary will turn 21 years old next week. His brother Elijah is 17. They live in Los Angeles and love the Pirates because of their 63-year-old dad, Roger, who grew up a Roberto Clemente fan. McCutchen signed the jersey Christopher wore that night in 2015 and posed for pictures with the three of them and the boys’ mother.
The Bucs will try to break the losing streak tonight at Dodger Stadium. Right-hander Luis Ortiz (2-3, 4.11 ERA) faces LA righty Emmet Sheehan (2-0, 2.65 ERA). It’s an 8:45 airtime on WCCS, with first pitch scheduled for 9:10.
